Michael Cooney's “Cash on Delivery” is a farce centred on Eric Swan who, unbeknown to his wife Linda, has been defrauding the DSS for two years by claiming benefit for an army of fictitious lodgers, all of whom suffer from a variety of ailments for which they can claim. The play begins when Eric finds it all getting too complicated and tries to extricate himself by killing off his make-believe tenants. The first call he makes is to inform the council that one of his creations has died. He is interrupted in this by his real life lodger, Norman Bassett, who has no idea that Eric is claiming benefits in his name. When a few minutes later the DSS Inspector Mr Jenkins comes round to see another one of the fictitious claimants Norman gets sucked into Eric's web of deceit

What They Said |
“I just had to drop you a line to say how much I enjoyed last evening’s production which was, I think, the best I’ve seen from the St Michael’s Players – as a farce it was ‘right up my street’ in comedy theatre - it had such good pace and timing, the characters were brilliantly portrayed, especially by Adrian Ellis who was just superb as Norman and has such a natural comedy talent and, of course, dear Mickey, whose comic timing in his physical antics and tumbles were amazing – so well done you as producer (clever girl!) and please pass on my congratulations to all those involved but most especially the cast for such a superb and enjoyable evening – along with the rest of the audience, I laughed until I cried!! Brilliant! I’ve seen many a comedy production in theatre but I have to say that the St Michael’s Players are up there among the best I’ve seen! I much look forward to your next production.” Pam S |
